1. SafeStyle is financially supporting the eο¬orts of Regenerate Australia (RA) to plant natives across Australia. Weβve also committed to oο¬setting the carbon from our oο¬ces and employees on top of this.
2. SafeStyle is now oο¬setting all transport of our products from manufacturing to our warehouses with RA.
3. SafeStyle has committed to working directly with our manufacturers to oο¬set the production of our growing range of products.
4. Weβve also set our default donation option toβplanting trees with RAβ at checkout to help customers oο¬set their impact
Carbon oο¬setting can get a bad wrap when big corporations abuse it but letβs help you understand why itβs necessary and how it can really work. SafeStyle has a carbon footprint; this comes from any activity we do that produces greenhouse gas emissions (usually CO2 and/or Methane). Whether itβs during manufacturing of our products, transport to get them to us, and you, or even just an employee going about their daily work at head oο¬ce or on the road.
Carbon oο¬setting is what we can do to make up for this Carbon footprint. We invest in projects that actively remove or prevent greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere. There are a bunch of diο¬erent ways to do this such as renewable energy, carbon capture technology etc but weβve chosen native reforestation. This means weβre not just planting pine trees in a paddock somewhereβ¦ weβre supporting CPA who secure land, plant native bush and support the area as it comes back to life!
Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is a naturally occurring gas essential for life on Earth. However, when too much CO2 builds up in the atmosphere, it becomes harmful, trapping excessive heat and disrupting the natural balance.
Human activities have dramatically increased CO2 levels, largely through processes like producing polycarbonate, a durable plastic used in industries such as our eyewear as well as automotives, and electronics.
Polycarbonate is made from raw materials such as bisphenol A (BPA) and phosgene, in a process that requires large amounts of energy, often sourced from fossil fuels, which releases greenhouse gases such as CO2.
For every tonne of polycarbonate produced, approximately 2 tonnes of CO2 are emitted into the atmosphere. This excess CO2 traps heat, amplifying the natural greenhouse eο¬ect and leading to global warming. Rising temperatures contribute to more extreme weather events (cyclones, floods, heat wavesβ¦) melting polar ice, and rising sea levels.
